A 13-year-old girl was attacked by a stranger who hit her on the head with a stick while she walked her dog.

Police are appealing for information following the assault.

The girl was walking in the woods between Edward Street and Pine Grove in Ystrad Mynach on Monday June 17 when the attack happened.

She was walking her dog at about 4.15pm when she was approached by a man who hit on the head with a stick he was carrying.

The attacker is described as in his 30s, about 5ft 10in tall, of skinny build, with brown hair with a long fringe over one side of his face.

He was wearing black skinny jeans with a silver chain hanging from the pocket and a black hoody. He was wearing black daps with laces. He was also wearing one red fingerless glove made of fishnet material.

The dog bit him and he ran off. Police say he might have had to receive treatment for the bite.

The 13 year old girl suffered a minor head injury.

If anyone has information they are asked to call Gwent Police on 101 and quote log number 377 17/6/13
