The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating allegations of sexual offences and abuses of power by a Gwent Police sergeant.
The 46-year-old unnamed custody sergeant has been suspended since the investigation began on May 14 this year.
A previous investigation into the allegations was carried out be Gwent Police under the supervision of the IPCC following a referral to the IPCC in January 2013.
The police watchdog said the investigation was handed back to the IPCC to “ensure greater independent oversight”.
IPCC Commissioner for Wales Tom Davies said: “Allegations of this nature are both serious and sensitive and should be investigated thoroughly. The public rightly expect to have confidence in how they are treated when they are in custody and allegations to the contrary only erode confidence.
“The IPCC is managing this criminal investigation which will be both robust and thorough.”
Why has HE NOT been named then?
I don't think anybody who has been accused of sexual offences should be named unless they are found guilty, regardless of who they are. Peoples lives can be ruined due to naming the accused and at times they have proven their innocence.
