Work costing £200,000 to improve Risca Leisure Centre is due to be completed by the end of July.

A new gym, with state-of-the art fitness equipment has been installed at the leisure centre with more than 50 stations, incorporating cardiovascular exercises with resistance and free weights equipment.

A new health suite, viewing area and outdoor, floodlit, five-a-side pitch will also be available for residents and visitors to use when the works are completed, as well as new office space for staff.

Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “This is another fantastic development for leisure services in Caerphilly County Borough, bringing our facilities up to a 21st Century standard.

“Despite budget constraints, the council recognises the importance of investing in sport and leisure for the benefit of all residents who live in the county borough. This exciting development at Risca Leisure Centre is yet another significant step in encouraging our residents to live active and healthy lives.”

Originally spread over two floors, the new fitness suite is now located on the second floor with more space for its increasing membership.

The old gym has been converted into a health suite and features a sauna, steam room and self-contained changing room, in addition to a multi-use area.
