Maesycwmmer girl hasn’t had a day off school in eight years

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Wednesday August 7th, 2013.

Young Georgia Marshall is in a class of her own – she’s not had a single day off school for EIGHT years!

And turning up to register at Maesycwmmer Primary School for more than two thirds of her life won the 11-year-old a special end of term award at a special assembly.

Georgia’s mother, who is also a dinner lady at the school, said: “I am so proud of Georgia.”

Cabinet Member Councillor Rhianon Passmore congratulated Georgia and her parents and said: “ Children only get one chance at school, and the chances of a successful future may be affected by not attending school or alternative provision regularly.

“Nowadays, it is more important than ever to have a good education behind you if you want more opportunities in adult life and making good attendance routine in a child’s life will set them up for the future.”

That's not something to be celebrated as you should be going to school anyway.

I'm sorry Janice but I disagree with you. Just because children should attend school does not mean we should not celebrate an achievement of eight years without a day off.

In the working world there are very few adults who manage a full year without a days illness let alone eight consecutive years.

    Well done Georgia!

Janice dear… When was the last time you went to work without having a day off? Silly woman that you are.

    Well done Georgia.

Janice does have a point, I'll give her that but there are ways of making it and that's not the right way.
