Green Flags for four Caerphilly County Borough parks

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Thursday August 8th, 2013.

Four parks in Caerphilly County Borough have been awarded a prestigious Green Flag for 2013.

The award recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces in the country as well as driving up the quality of green space.

This year Morgan Jones Park in Caerphilly town, Waunfawr Park in Crosskeys, Nelson Wern Park and Parc Cwm Darren all received the accolade.

For Morgan Jones Park this is the ninth year in a row that the park has been given a Green Fla by the Keep Wales Tidy campaign.

A record 61 parks and 56 community managed green spaces in Wales have been awarded Green Flags this year.

Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “I am very proud that our parks have received such an accolade. Our Parks Services work incredibly hard to ensure that our parks are to the highest standard and are places for residents and visitors to enjoy and I would like to thank them all for their hard work.”

Joanna Friedli, Green Flag Co-ordinator for Wales added: “Keep Wales Tidy is extremely proud that so many parks and green spaces in Wales have reached the high standards necessary to achieve Green Flag status.

“The feedback received from our experienced volunteer judges in regards to the dedication and effort shown by staff and volunteers at these parks has been fantastic.

“I would like to pass on our congratulations to every single park receiving the Green Flag Award 2013/2014 and the Community Awards 2013/14 and hope that together we can continue to raise the standards of parks and green space in Wales and provide our communities with fantastic facilities to enjoy throughout the year.”
