Rhymney Comprehensive School’s eco competition win

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:00, Monday September 23rd, 2013.

Pupils from Rhymney Comprehensive School have won a national environmental competition.

The school was given the grand prize in the Sky Rainforest Rescue Schools Challenge after pupils investigated how much energy the school used and its impact on the rainforest.

The student team, called the Rhymney Jaguars, managed to save the school more than 250 tonnes of CO2 and won £1,000 for their efforts.

Headteacher Robert Davies said: “The members of the Eco group, pupils and staff are fantastically committed and enthusiastic in raising awareness of issues that adversely affect our environment. The group thoroughly deserve their success in this challenge.”
