The son of a Penyrheol shopkeeper has helped raise almost £25,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Shalil Bhoja was one of six Welsh lads who took part in a recent ‘Tough Mudder’ competition – an extreme ten to 12 mile assault course. The team joined friends from London to take part in the event to help raise the charity money.

The team were running in memory of the son of Shalil’s cousin, a little boy called Aashil Hirani who passed away in January this year from a genetic disorder. He was four days away from his first birthday and was being cared for at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Shalil’s father Premj , who owns Londis in Penyrheol, said it was a great effort by the London and Welsh team to raise money for an excellent cause.

Through donations from family and friends, and other events, the total raised is just under £25,000.
