RUGBY UNION: A strong Camarthen side was too much for Bedwas when they faced each other on Sunday October 27.
Bedwas conceded seven tries at home to a very good Carmarthen side, and on Saturday November 2, they will face Pontypridd at Bridge Field.
But, as one Carmarthen supporter said: “One thing about Bedwas is that they never know when they are beaten. Last season they beat us at Carmarthen Park in injury time.”
There is not a club in the Premiership who do not rate Bridge Field as one of the hardest places to win at and though you must place a class goal kicker, and fly half Richard Powell is one of the best, on Saturday he missed three out of five attempts.
The Quins scored two converted tries in the opening eight minutes before Powell succeeded with a penalty, but Quins came back with another seven-point converted try.
Harley Thomson then did well to offload to the supporting Dan Dearden with Powell converting.
Quins opened the second half with a bonus-point try and conversion, before losing two players to yellow cards.
Powell then worked wing Lewis Hudd a half-chance that was splendidly taken.
But, three more tries came in the last 11 minutes with two by replacement flanker James Davies, a former Bedwas player.
It will certainly need the Bedwas coaches Steve Law and Ian Gardner to have a hard look at the match video.
Quins looked like a top-of-the-table side while Bedwas were missing some vital forwards.
It was 12 months ago that Bedwas, after seven wins and a draw in eight successive outings, led the table.
Bedwas coach Steve Law said: “I am very disappointed with the way that we played, and the way in particular that we let a couple of the tries in.”
Coach Ian Gardner added: “There will be changes next week.
“But, we will go back to training hard, knuckling down and come back battling as we always do.”
