Two tries during injury time in either half was the difference between the two sides as they played out the first round of the Swalec Plate competition on Sunday October 27.
The heavy ground was not conducive to running rugby as both sides spent the first quarter of the game mainly in the middle of the park. Testing each other, it was the home side that took the lead 24 minutes in.
Taking play up to the Caerphilly line, the home side sucked in the defence out left before spreading the ball wide to the right. Winger Michael Hunt collected the pass with a clear space to eventually cross under the posts, scrum half James Hallett adding the first of his nine points with a successful conversion.
Caerphilly grabbed their only points of the day winning a penalty during a move that caught the home team offside as they attacked out wide.
With the end of the half looming, a series of penalties helped Senghenydd work their way up to the five metre line, before winning a scrum as Caerphilly failed to clear their lines.
From the set move, centre Lewis Bowden entered the line at pace, breaking through to cross under the posts as the first half closed with a home lead of 14-3.
The home side enjoyed the comfort of territory and possession for the third quarter, but some steadfast defence from Caerphilly kept them at bay.
They were restricted to a penalty after 48 minutes, and their own defence held firm as Caerphilly lay siege on the try line for the final quarter.
Deep into injury time Senghenydd crossed the line, Hallett adding the conversion making it a 24-3 win for the second division side.
