Unemployment in Wales falls by 8%

Business, News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Thursday November 7th, 2013.

The number of people unemployed in Wales has fallen by 1,000 to 120,000 in the last three months, according to figures published by Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The unemployment figure has also dropped by 4,000 since this time last year and the number of people in employment in Wales has increased by 11,000 over the three months but down 3,000 over the year.

Janet Jones, from the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “It is pleasing to see that unemployment is continuing to fall in Wales according to these latest figures.

“Against the background of the budgets announced for local authorities across Wales, it is especially important that private sector firms create employment to make up for the inevitable job losses in the public sector.”

She added that confidence among FSB members was at a three-year high.
