We recently featured a story about the organ from Caerphilly’s famous Double Diamond Club being sold on the website CaerphillyAuctions.co.uk.

We asked readers to contact us with their memories and one of the club’s former hostesses, Leslie Long, emailed us.

She said: “Nostalgia took over after reading your article ‘Going For A Song. I worked a the Double Diamond Club from the time it opened to the time it closed.

“I was one of the hostesses. There were two of us who welcomed the guests and escorted them to their seats. Throughout the years I had the pleasure of seeing all the top artists who were billed at the Diamond.

“Shirley Bassey, Cliff Richards, Lulu, Frankie Vaughan, even Prince Charles made a visit there.

“Most of the 70s’ up and coming bands featured at the club, but the most popular as far as I’m concerned was Tommy Cooper. Matinees and evenings we had full house with people waiting for standing room. It was the days of dinner dancing followed by Cabarets. As the song goes ‘those were the days my friend’.”
