Olympic medallist invests in new fitness centre in Abercarn

Business, News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:03, Monday November 25th, 2013.

Olympic Gold and Silver medallist Darren Campbell has invested in a new gym in Abercarn.

The sprinter, who won gold in the 4x100m relay in Athens in 2004 and silver in the 200m in Sydney in 2000, has opened WRCC Ltd’s new fitness centre with business partners Matt Hughes and Lisa-Marie Row.

Mr Campbell, who was awarded an MBE in 2005, said: “I have always been passionate about all things sport. I know better than most that to succeed in sport of any discipline fitness and a healthy lifestyle are both fundamental. In order to achieve that, a top quality training facility is essential and that is essentially what we have to offer with WRCC Ltd.
“Working with my business partners Lisa and Matt, who really are the driving force behind the expansion, has enabled me to be a part of building a community facility where people can achieve inspiring goals, dramatic transformations or take their first step on the journey to healthier lifestyle.”

The new fitness centre, on Abercarn Industrial Estate, has a Crossfit area, a multi-function studio, rehabilitation centre and a modern coffee bar.

The fitness centre will run a range of classes including Crossfit, Pilates, Personal Training and Functional Rehabilitation.

WRCC will also run a weekly bootcamp at Cwmcarn Forest Drive.

The centre will also be home to a beauty salon, called Vanity Nails and Beauty, run by Ms Evans.
The two businesses aim to compliment one and other by adopting the ‘under one roof’ approach to health and beauty.
