Rugby Union: Lewsey leads the Blackwood Stars in training

Sport | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Wednesday November 27th, 2013.

World class rugby came to Blackwood recently, as Blackwood Stars RFC welcomed Josh Lewsey, the new WRU Head of Rugby to their training session.

Lewsey, who helped England win the Rugby World Cup in 2003, joined the WRU earlier this year and visited Blackwood to lead the squad in a training session that tested them to their limits.

The Blackwood Stars RFC Team Manager, Matthew John, said: “Josh gave a great session the players and coaches learnt a lot from. We thought it was fantastic that Josh and the WRU are taking time out to support a club of our level.”

The team enjoyed a physically demanding and relevant training session and were then able to take part in a question and answer session where Lewsey expressed that grassroots rugby is in need of a boost in support from.

He said: “We will be trying our best to increase participation at schools and at senior levels.”
