OPERATION SANTA: Thousands of toys were donated as part of this year’s appeal

Thousands of Christmas presents have been donated to children across Caerphilly County Borough through a council-backed charity appeal.

Organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council, it has been a record-breaking year for the Operation Santa appeal.
A huge response from residents, businesses, schools and charities across the region and beyond saw 2,500 Christmas gifts donated and shared between 800 children in time for Christmas.

Children receiving gifts from the Operation Santa appeal have been nominated by Social Services or charities Llamau, Action for Children, Home-Start and Gofal Cyrmu.

Children benefiting from the Operation Santa initiative are not supported by any other appeal.

On Friday December 6, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Penallta House headquarters was transformed into an Operation Santa production line, with around 50 volunteers helping to wrap and sort the donated presents before they were delivered to homes around the region the following day.

Cllr Gerald Jones, deputy leader of the council, said: “The response to this year’s appeal has been absolutely staggering.

“It is heart warming that residents, council staff, schools, businesses, volunteers and charities have been able to dig so deep, particularly in this tough economic climate.

“The generous support we have seen will make a lot of children happy this Christmas.”
