A primary school cook is bidding to be named School Chef of the Year after reaching the regional finals of the competition.
Kate Davies, who works at St Gwladys Primary School in Bargoed (pictured), was announced as one of the regional finalists on November 22 and will continue her campaign to be crowned School Chef of the Year at the regional finals on March 3 next year.
The competition is organised by the Local Authority Catering Association (LACA) and puts cooks’ skills to the test.
Each entrant is required to produce a healthy two-course meal for Year 6 pupils in just 90 minutes.
For the competition, Kate will recreate her dish of Beef Seekh Kebab with coconut rice, spiced tomato chutney and a cucumber, mint and yogurt dressing with chappatis followed by apple and cinnamon samsosas served with fruit coulis and a yogurt and condensed milk dipping sauce.
