Emily Cullen was the top gymnast at a Valleys Gymnastics Academy invitational event.

The Crumlin-based group hosted clubs from Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taff and Newport, with competitions in four categories, and the local gymnasts delivered some outstanding performances.

Eight-year-old Cullen took first place overall and won a heap of apparatus ribbons, including a first place on the beam for a solid routine and first place on the bars. Twin sister Sophie came sixth place overall, as well as two apparatus placings and a special judges’ award for her range and conditioning routine.

In the Grade 14 ‘out of age’ category, Seren Hooper was crowned champion, collecting several apparatus awards. Mya Davies won a ribbon on the bars and Amelia Regal and Ella Mitchell collected awards. Jazmine Cox and Grace Morgan also competed well in their first grading event.

In the Grade 13 competition, the home gymnasts were again outstanding. In the ‘in age’ competition, nine-year-old Carys Carpenter was overall champion and champion on bars and vault. Molli Lloyd was second overall and champion on beam and Naomi Burgess was third overall, also picking up several apparatus placings.

In the ‘out of age’ category Kenzie Reynolds was fourth overall, taking awards for her beam, range and conditioning routines. Lauryn Carpenter was second on range whilst Becky Thomas was sixth on beam.
