There were double celebrations at Castle View Residential Home in Caerphilly as two of its residents celebrated very special birthdays on Thursday February 13.
Betty Palmer turned 100 and was presented with a very special birthday card from the Queen by the Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Michael Gray, while Phyllis Meredith celebrated reaching the grand age of 102.
Mrs Palmer’s children Howard Palmer, 75, Mary Thomas, 69, and Margaret Lewis, 66, who all live in the Machen and Bedwas area, said of their mum: “We think her secret is that when she was young her father was a very keen gardener so they had fresh vegetables year-round. They also walked everywhere when she was a youngster, so she has always been very fit and active.”
Mrs Meredith’s two daughters also joined in the celebrations. Sheila Morgan, 82, and Cynthia Higgs, 73, said: “Our mum has had a hard but very happy life. She didn’t really get to celebrate her 100th birthday as she was ill so it’s wonderful she gets to celebrate with Betty. She has been a wonderful mother and everybody loves her.”
My very best birthday wishes to the two ladies but I think the headline should read 'centenarians' as 'centurian' was a rank in the army of imperial Rome.
