The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was found dead in appalling conditions
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was found dead in appalling conditions

RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information about a dog that was left to starve to death in a shed in New Tredegar.

The emaciated body of the Staffordshire bull terrier dog was discovered by a member of the public at an allotment on Jubilee Road in New Tredegar on January 18.

The dog was a white, unneutered male with black spots on both his ears found on a shed floor that was covered with faeces and mud.

A black plastic dog bed and a tub of water were visible,  but the water was covered over by a wooden gate so the dog would have been unable to access it.

It is thought the dog may have been dead for a number of weeks before being discovered.

RSPCA inspector Selina Chan is appealing for anyone who recognises the description of the dog to get in contact.

She said: “This is an absolutely shocking case where a dog has been left to die a long and painful death.

“Someone must know where he came from and I urge them to please contact me as no animal should ever have to suffer like this and we need to find out who did this.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the RSPCA inspector’s appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and leave a message for Inspector Chan.

Man, this is so upsetting. I hope the person that did this dies a slow and painful death like this poor animal. There needs to be new laws introduced in this country to protect animals from people who are capable of this. Animals are far more deserving of life than humans, most people are just scum.

Makes me laugh. Not the dog of course, but the RSPCA asking for help. We reported on 4 occasions about a dog who was living outside in all conditions with no food, no shelter, was drinking out of puddles for water and when its owners walked by they used to kick it! What did they do? NOTHING! I ended up reporting the inspector who rang me (regarding my complaint) because all she was interested in was whether I knew the owner or not! Erm HELLO I was complaining about a dog being starved/beaten and you want to know if I know the owners! OF COURSE they did NOTHING and YES of course the dog died!

someone somewhere must know something this is appauling so so cruel and ok like every other agency in this country Rspca are under resourced! This does not mean anyone has the right to treat animals in this way.

Breaks my heart we all need to be persistent until somebody listens! Its the only way we can stop this from happening.

So heartbreaking. Can only imagine the pain and suffering this poor little baby went through. Why is this happening in a country that is suppost to be known for its love of animals. I hope the person who did this suffers a long and extremely painful death, just like this beautiful animal did. We need to get more education back into schools at a young age so children grow up with the knowledge and caring for animals. My heart breaks looking at that picture, how it must have suffered. R.I.P now little fella and run free over Rainbow Bridge xx

OK. Simple, find the culprit, lock him in the same shed and leave him there.

As for the RSPCA, they have lost their way. They spend hundreds of thousands of pounds to pay barristers to prosecute the occasional fox hunt in a high profile case, with no hope of winning, then appeal on tv with starving dogs and horses, trying to get money out of us.

Maybe we shouldnt be so quick to judge I'm not condoning the fact that this is sick but I know for a fact that it was not entirely the owners fault that this happened to there pet! Just ask the RSPCA because when they did finally get round to looking into the matter they discovered that this dog had a really serious illness And without spending thousands of pounds n vetinary fees there would of been no way that dog would of survived anyway! And even if the owner was willing to pay the vet bills it took the RSPCA numerous weeks to find out what was wrong with the dog! So how could you possibly expect a normal everyday pet owner to know what was wrong!

To the above – Even if the dog was suffering from a serious illness and could not be helped by the RSPCA due to lack of funding, that DOES NOT condone leaving the poor animal outside in these conditions, unable to access water and suffering with starvation. Whether anyone was willing to pay the vet bills or not, this kind of treatment is inexcusable! I am sure many people would have welcomed the dog into their home, whether it was ill or not, if the owner could not cope. Starving the poor animal to death should not have been deemed an option by the owner. A dog is not just a pet, they are a member of your family.

Makes me sick y do people think its ok 2 treat these poor animals so bad. If they didnt want the poor thing then take them 2 an animal shelter ffs. Rip little pup @ least u r no longer suffering or in pain. I hope the people that did this 2 u end there life in pain & starving. Just so they can feel the pain & suffering u had 2 endure in ure last days. Jordan if this animal was so ill then they should of had him put down not just left 2 die. When you get an animal then you know @ some point u r goin 2 have vets bills large or small if u can not afford small 1s then u should having a pet out of ure mind & not get 1. No reason or excuse will excuse what they done to this animal.

If this dog was ill then it should of been given a dignified death not left to starve on its own with no food, water, a warm bed and someone to cuddle it!!! I give all my dogs a big hug knowing that at least mine have got a warm fire to lye next to, and know that they are loved. This truly makes me sick to my stomach. 🙁 🙁

Sounds like to me Jordan knows a bit more about the dog that what the article is telling us. Maybe Jordan is the owner or knows the owner?? i would like to know exactally where he has got this information from. As a veterinary nurse, i find this appalling and very distressing. How can people make up excuses to why this dog died in its own faeces, with no food or water, all alone. People just do not understand that there are rescues out there that will take the dog, even your local vets!! The horrible and disgusting fact is though… people would rather their animals die to put to sleep than them going to a rescue. My heart goes out to this little one. 🙁

Sorry Jordan but there is absolutely no excuse for letting a dog die like that. Why was it's water bowl covered for starters? If the dog was sick and the owner couldn't afford vets fees then surely the person concerned should've handed the dog to a rescue for help. I think that you are defending the indefensible.

It's disgraceful and the owner(s) should be hanging their heads in shame for allowing what sounds like a terminally ill dog to die a slow and painful death, no doubt frightened and clearly alone. How on earth can ANYONE justify such cruel and heartless behaviour? Any REASONABLE and RESPONSIBLE owner would want to make their dog as happy, safe as comfortable as possible. If the dog was so ill and paying for treatment was out of the question, and they REALLY wanted to do something they would have MADE IT HAPPEN! I mean, look at the squalid conditions, the filth, the lack of comfort, THE LACK OF CARE. It's appalling, barbaric, sickening and TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. I really hope that karma gives these people some well deserved payback in this lifetime and that their lives become as miserable and meaningless as the life they gave this poor dog. Scum of the earth!

The local Council AND the Allotment Association should be able to supply the name of the person who rents the allotment. If it isn't their dog then they would know whose dog it was. Either way they are as responsible for the poor dogs death. This information should be easily available to the RSPCA so why are they advertising for help to trace the owner? I think they have an alternative agenda here and are trying to make both POLITICAL and MONETARY capital out of the suffering of this poor dog. By making this appeal they hope to raise cash donations and engender sympathy for themselves. If this is the case, and I truly believe it is, then they are as CRUEL as the person(s) who left this dog to starve to death.

    Jordon ARE YOU SERIOUS???

You think because the dog was ill anyway it was ok to leave the poor thing to starve to death??? REALLY!

If things were that bad they would have been kinder (and cheaper if money was that big a problem) to have had the dog pts instead of just leaving it to die in agony!

If you know any facts about this poor dog, you need to contact the police or the RSPCA. If you don't you're as bad as the people who did this.

    Jordan on February 27th, 2014 at 10:11 pm says…

"I know for a fact that it was not entirely the owners fault that this happened to there pet!"

Can`t even spell properly you pratt.

If you know this for a fact perhaps the RSPCA and the Gwent Police should be talking to you you cretin. Your logic is twisted, and if this `pet`, as you mistakenly called him, was ill at anytime before its tortured death it is the full and legal responsibility of the owner, and anyone else who may be aware of the dogs plight, ( As you seem to be)to ensure it has the best possible vet`s care.

And another thing, Jordan, you bell end, in going light on the dogs owner, explain this you idiot, where was the food for this dog, where was the water for this dog, and why was the poor dog left to die such an unnecessary and painfully lonely death locked in a shed, in winter?. I also understand this shed was on an allotment site, where were the other cretinous plot holders to let such a thing happen under their noses? Where is the Chairman and Secretary of this allotment site to see it used as some kind of `death camp` for sick and abandoned defenceless animals, (let`s hear something from you if you can write your names,) out of the way of preying public eyes ( Who would have done something about it had they known of the dogs suffering)

All the plot holders of this allotment have the blood of this poor creature on their hands and as a result I hope they suffer the same kind of fate when they fall ill, lock them in some unheated outhouse in the middle of winter with no food or water to die, and decrease the population of those who could`nt care less for other living creatures, it has been shown that those who treat animals in this way, and those who past this shed day in day whilst this poor dog suffered, are only one step away from doing the same to children.

The owner has to be found and taken before the courts, they have committed criminal offences and should be jailed for as long as the law allows.

I know, lets kick the RSPCA in the nuts,. Because at the end of the day, all that counts is giving a beasting to a service trying their best to help.

For all you haters out there, bugger off, get a life and realise that hard work takes hard people, these guys at the RSPCA do a hard days graft, trying to protect animals, if you think they have it easy, you have no idea. I wonder how many of you would like to look at scenes like this on a daily basis and still turn up to do it again the following day

The RSPCA do not have any custodial powers, so can't take animals away, that's what the police are for, these guys are a charity, looking after animals, with nothing other than a uniform and the good will of the public.

If you don't have good will, then keep your mouth shut, because you are the problem – report animal abusers, and the RSPCA will enlist the police, and then hopefully they will privately prosecute… big emphasis on privately…

If you want proper prosecution of animal abusers, lobby your local MP to insist that the Police do more!!
