Cavalier passion not enough for Nelson AFC

Sport | Gareth Hill | Published: 10:00, Thursday March 27th, 2014.

Llanbradach 2 – 1 Nelson Cavaliers

Nelson started brightly in the Taff and Ely and Rhymney Valley Premier Division game, on Saturday March 15, dominating the first half but failed to convert any of their chances and went in 0-0 at the break.

Llanbradach scored on the hour following an attacking free kick for Nelson 30 yards out.

The free kick went well over the bar and Nelson switched off as the goal kick was taken quickly and five seconds later the home team got their opening goal.

Nelson battled back and equalised through a Dan Lewis free kick ten minutes from time before another lapse saw Llanbradach’s striker collect a long ball and finish well to leave Nelson empty-handed.

Pontyclun 4 – 0 Nelson Cavaliers Seconds

Nelson seconds also fell short at Pontyclun despite a hard fought first-half.

Haydn Pitt and Lewis Roberts both forced the home keeper into action and Nelson were defending superbly with Nick Rees leading the way.

But against the run of play, a Pontyclun cross fell straight to their player whose deflected shot was fired in by his team-mate.

Pontyclun went two up in the second half before two late goals finished Nelson off, leaving a flattering score line for the victors.
