Oakdale school awarded Green Flag status

News | | Published: 11:00, Monday April 14th, 2014.

Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School in Oakdale has been awarded a Green Flag status for their eco efforts.

Pupils collected clothes and batteries for recycling and developed an award-winning travel plan.

The school also worked with the Gwent Wildlife Trust to develop an allotment area for every class to use and learn about sustainable gardening and benefited from a workshop on birds.

Is not being allowed to ferry the children to and from school in gas guzzling, planet killing, polar ice cap melting cars part of the requirement of the Green Flag status.

What a pointless award. The children should be awarded for being quiet and being good, not for putting few garments in and batteries in a bag to be shipped on a diesel guzzling ship halfway around the world where the contents will be dumped in landfill.

The efforts of the children are doing very little to help global warming (no one actually knows if it exists by the way) China, India and the USA are the big players in this area. The efforts of the children is a bit like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.
