RUGBY LEAGUE: Seven youngsters who play for Senghenydd based Aber Valley Wolves have been selected for Wales Rugby League’s 26 man under 16 development squad.

The squad was named for Wales’ tests against England and Scotland in August after recent open trials and fourteen of the squad play for the South Wales Regional Academy.

The Aber Valley players are Lewis Willacott of St Martin’s School, Connor Wiegold of Coleg Y Cymoedd, Ystrad Mynach, Jordan Gilbert of Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni, Dylan Reed and Ryan Davies, both of St Cenydd Comprehensive and Connor Kawulok and Macauley Harris, of Cardinal Newman RC High School, Rhydyfelin.

Jack Samuels of Bedwas High School, who plays for Penallta Storm, also made the squad.

Aber Valley Wolves Vice Chairman, Darren Williams, said: “We’re very proud of our players, I can’t describe how happy I felt when I heard that seven of them were in the squad.

“I’ve coached three of them, Connor Wiegold, Jordan Gilbert and Dylan Reed, since they were five years old but I can’t wait to support them all when they play for Wales.”
