A New Tredegar teenager is looking to turn professional after signing up with a growing sports promoter fronted by Commonwealth gold medallist, Jamie Arthur.

Ricky Rowlands, 19, has won nearly 50 competitive amateur fights but is looking to go a step further with the help of Pontypridd-based 3B Promotions.

Ricky has trained over three times a week since he was six-years-old, and stepped into the ring for the first time on his tenth birthday.

Since then he has gone on to win seven Welsh titles and two British titles, while also taking home a silver medal for Wales at the most recent Amateur International Boxing Association Youth World Boxing Championships in 2012.

The teenager won his first senior bout aged just 17 against a 25-year-old and is confident of developing his talent further and making it as a professional.

Ricky said: “I started boxing at six-years-old because my older brother boxed and I wanted to do everything he did. I immediately loved it and quickly took my training more seriously as I progressed.

“Having won nearly 50 fights, and competed for Wales internationally, I believe that working with a dedicated promotions firm will help me take my game to the next level.

“My goal is to win titles. Many boxers are in it just for the money but I’m dedicated to being the best boxer in my weight category in the UK, Europe and hopefully the world.”

3B Promotions was founded by the 1992 commonwealth games, lightweight gold medallist, Jamie Arthur, and has also signed boxers Kyle King and Jimmy Wight.

Jamie said: “Ricky has undoubted potential and his commitment to succeed is second to none. With my experience and expertise, I want to take him to the next level, competing with professional fighters across the country.

“I’ve set up 3B Promotions to take grassroots fighters with potential and develop them into the professional boxers of tomorrow.”
