Football: Newbridge’s Fields Park reform and new Bedwas team looking for sponsorship

A Newbridge football club is to reform for the start of the new season.

Fields Park folded in 2005 and were once a major force in the Gwent area, but now they are looking to players to join them in the Ryan Transport North Gwent League.

The team won the Gwent Amateur Cup three times and twice one the Gwent County Cup.

They also won the old Gwent premier League three times, were Senior Cup champions and in 1981-82 won the Gwent county League and Cup double. The club merged with Pontllanfraith FC in 1992 before folding in 2005.

The Newbridge club will be holding training sessions on the Fields Park ground from Monday June 30 at 06.30pm.

Wednesday sessions will be held at Newbridge Leisure Centre from 6pm until 7pm. All further training sessions will continue to be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from then on.

• A new under 14 football club are looking for sponsorship to kit out their players.

BTM FC, serving Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen, train every Thursday between 6-7pm at the Bryn field, opposite Bedwas High School, which will also serve as their home ground,.
