Primary school children from across Caerphilly County Borough celebrated the launch of the World Cup with a competition of their own.
Teams adopted the colours of participating nations to compete at the Caerphilly County Borough Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach on June 13.
Pupils from over 30 schools played on the international standard 3G pitches at the new facility, with Italy the reining champions, represented by Blackwood Primary School.
Even their teachers embraced the theme, dressing up as the famous Italian gaming characters Mario and Luigi.
Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “It is fantastic that so many of our school children took part in this tournament.
“It is so important that sport is made to be fun so that children can become hooked on it for life.”
Children at the tournament were also able to have their photo taken with the UEFA Super Cup.
The Football Association of Wales were promoting the upcoming match between Real Madrid and Sevilla.
The game could see Welsh legend Gareth Bale grace the turf of the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday August 12.
