Rugby League: Valley Cougars go second with fifth successive win

Sport | | Published: 14:00, Thursday July 10th, 2014.

RUGBY LEAGUE: Valley Cougars moved into second place in the National Conference South table with an impressive win in Leicester.

The Scorpions’ feeder side travelled with just two substitutes on a tricky trip to Leicester Storm, winning their fifth game in a row 30-16.

Yousif Suliman led the way with two tries for the Cougars with Scott Britton, Gethin King, Cory Lloyd and Dafydd Hellard also scored while Dan Parry kicked three conversions.

Cougar’s coach Paul Emanuelli, who missed the game due to Scorpions’ duty, said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the result and definitely helped mood after a really disappointing result with the Scorpions.

“I hate not travelling with my boys but we got 15 warriors together and went up there and showed great character from what my assistant and coach for the day Scotty Giles has told me.”

Giles said: “I’m absolutely over the moon with the win.

“We travelled up with an under estimated side but came here and did the job and got a big scalp.

“It just shows what Cougar rugby is all about. It wasn’t the best first half but when we came out after the interval, we couldn’t ask for any more effort.

“Some boys were thrown in late on and did not let the side down.

“It’s going to be a big week in training and we’re already looking forward to Sheffield at home next weekend.”

• In the Welsh Conference Aber Valley Wolves beat the Cougars’ ‘A’ side 62-8 while Bridgend Blue Bulls thrashed Cardiff Demons 80-10 and Torfaen Tigers won at home to Cardiff Spartans 36-14.
