Bargoed boxer Lauren Price has won at least a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games after a unanimous decision win over Australian Kaye Scott.
The Gelligaer Amateur Boxing Club product won her middleweight quarter-final in Glasgow last night, July 30.
Price, 20, forced her 30-year-old opponent into two standing counts and, despite suffering a count herself, won every round.
Bill summers, coach at Gelligaer Boxing Club praised Lauren and dismissed her knock down.
He said: “It was a push but he gave her a count, in my opinion she shouldn’t have had it.
“It was a brilliant fight, she boxed well and she did in her first bout.
“She’ll go all the way, I’ve got all the confidence in the world in her, she’s brilliant.”
Price became Wales’ first ever medal winner in women’s boxing at the Commonwealth Games and brought the country’s boxing medal tally to five.
On Twitter she thanked her supporters and said she has her mind set on the gold medal.
She said: “Thanks for all the support guys! Over the moon I have a medal but I’m not down yet going for that gold.”
Price, who is also a Welsh football international, will fight Canadian Ariane Fortin in the semi final tomorrow, August 1 at 7pm.
Fortin, like Price, has won both previous bouts unanimously, on top in every round, and weighs in 5kg heavier with a slight height advantage.
Bill Summers added: “Lauren’s a 69 fighter but she’s boxing girls at 75 and she’s got the strength and courage to deal with them.
“The Canadian’ a tough girl, she’s a powerhouse.”
Thanks for all the support guys! Over the moon I have a medal but I’m not down yet going for that gold ???? #GoWales #1nation #TeamWales
