Praise for Gelligaer Mothers’ Union

News | | Published: 15:00, Tuesday September 23rd, 2014.

The Older People’s Commissioner for Wales has praised a group that raises hundreds of pounds for charities each year, alongside providing friendship and support for women in Caerphilly County Borough.

Commissioner Sarah Rochira visited St Margaret’s Church in Gilfach recently, where she was guest speaker at a meeting of Gelligaer Mothers’ Union.

The group was re-formed in 2008 and now has around 30 members who meet monthly.

Guest speakers are invited to meetings to talk about a wide range of subjects.

Ms Rochira said: “There are many factors that help older people to age well and one of the most important is that older people can spend time with friends doing the things they enjoy doing.

“Members described the warm and friendly atmosphere within Gelligaer Mothers’ Union and through theatre trips, quizzes or simply getting together for coffee mornings and lunch, the club provides wonderful social opportunities.”
