Football: Nelson Cavaliers seal late point against Bush Bluebirds

Nelson Cavaliers drew 1-1 with Bush Bluebirds in the Taff, Ely and Rumney Valley Premier League on October 11.

They rescued a point in the 90th minute through Ryan Donovan in a frustrating game for the Cavaliers.

Injury and a stag weekend meant a depleted team, missing five regulars, and Nelson struggled to get on top and string passes together early on.

The visitors went in front after thirty minutes when a long ball caused hesitancy in the home defence, which allowed the striker to score.

Just before half time Joe Brain replaced Scott Cryer, who suffered a recurrence of a foot injury from the previous week.

Nelson were gifted a great chance on the hour when the visiting defender kicked out and received a red card and presented the home team with a penalty.

Joel Davies took the spot kick but the keeper kept it out with a decent save.

Nelson then sent on two of their younger players who had stepped up from the second team and both Callum Yeo and Keenan James didn’t disappoint, adding energy to the Cavaliers’ attacks.

Yeo caused havoc with his pace and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet as Nelson pushed for the equaliser.

It looked like a defeat until the last minute and a long throw which caused panic in the visitor’s defence before Ryan Donovan slammed the ball home.

Time was up and although disappointed, Nelson took a point from a game which looked lost.

They face Hirwaun Sports at home in round two of the South Wales FA Intermediate Cup on October 18. Kick of is at 2pm.
