Tonyfelin ward by-election for Caerphilly Town Council approaches

News | | Published: 17:00, Tuesday December 16th, 2014.

A by-election for Caerphilly Town Council will take place on December 18, in the Tonyfelin ward.

The election was called by the Labour Party after Plaid Cymru’s Mike Thomas stood down from the role for personal reasons.

County Borough Councillor Mike Prew will be standing for Plaid Cymru, and Shayne Cook is standing for Labour, with no other candidates standing.

At least the citizens on Tonyfelin will have a chance to elect a Councillor and not have one imposed on them as was the case before, the pity is that some politicians would have rather `appointed` thier own man, but labour put a stop to that, the people will decide, as it should be!

I was hoping for a real change in candidates. Another independent or a new UKIP councillor would be nice to see but I suppose it’s going to be another two horse race with parties too focussed on slagging each other off than they are working together for the greater good.

It’s at the point where Labour campaigning leaflets mention ‘Plaid Cymru’ more than Plaid ones do. The reverse is also probably true.

I think change may soon be on the way, UKIP will probably have a hand in it too. Still I’m glad there is to be a by-election, Plaid Cymru (controlling the Town Council eight to four) thought the best idea was to simply co-opt one of their faithful as the new member without consulting the electorate. They see nothing wrong in this at all, personally I think an election is always the best way to conduct politics.

Well you are obviously not Labour as you do nothing but criticize them, your not Plaid Cymru as you don’t know what their literature contains, You’re probably not Conservative as you would be unwise to admit to that for fear of ridicule, by your comments I would say you actually support UKIP, get a grip on life mate….

Come on, Andrew. Hold off on the personal attacks. I am actually a combination of UKIP and the Conservatives. Very quickly, I support welfare cuts, foreign aid cuts, leaving the EU, NHS privatisation in large part, grammar schools, and the ability for teachers to be more aggressive with pupils. All are reasonable stances, and I will happily have a debate about them instead of hiding out of fear of being ridiculed. I am a political junkie with knowledge of what all parties stand for.

My problem with Plaid is their belief Wales could be a successful country post-independence. Wales is already subsidised by England, and I do not buy their arguments for independence.

As an aside Dean I have just read ‘The Cameron Delusion’ by Peter Hitchens. You may well have read it, an earlier edition was titled ‘The Broken Compass.’

Hitchens details all the points you mention in your comment and the book is very well written.
