School children have been fighting off invaders at Aberbargoed Grasslands Nature Reserve.
Pupils from Aberbargoed Primary School cut self-seeded willow and silver birch scrub as, if left unchecked, the grassland could become wooded and threaten important butterfly life there.
Ranger Mark Allen said: “I’m really grateful for the support of the school and the enthusiasm in which the children set about the task.
“The grasslands are an incredibly special place to have in the county borough and it’s important that the children get involved in helping their local environment.”
