Football: Rampant Nelson beat The Village 16-1

A rampant Nelson Cavaliers broke their long standing club record with a 16-1 win at The Village in the Taff Ely and Rhymney Valley premier Division on February 21.

From the start Nelson showed they were there to win, scoring the first goal after two minutes.

The goals flowed at regular intervals after that and Nelson were 8-0 up when they conceded a sloppy goal that denied them a clean sheet. Damian Paget’s back pass was too short which allowed the home striker to nip in and finish neatly.

From The Village kick off the Cavs won the ball and scored within ten seconds of the restart.
This set them up nicely and the goals kept coming as Nelson played some good football throughout.

Eight different scorers got on the scoresheet with captain Ben Banks leading the way with five. Lewis Roberts continued his great run to grab his third hat-trick in as many games and there were two goals each for Dan Falconer and young Kenean James.

Other scorers were defenders Ian Dillon, Aaron Powell, along with midfielders Dan Sudale and Gareth Marchant, who had a great game in the centre of the park.

The Cavs have certainly found their shooting boots in the last three games with impressive figures of 31 goals scored with just two goals conceded.
