Worker believed to have been threatened with knife during early morning robbery at Caerphilly town Iceland – Two teens arrested

A supermarket worker is believed to have been held at knifepoint during an early morning robbery at Iceland supermarket in Caerphilly town.

A 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy were arrested after the robbery which happened at around 4.45am this morning.

Police said two members of staff were on the premises at the time, but have yet to confirm local reports that one of them had a knife held to their throat.

The store is currently closed.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said the arrest took place at the scene after a member of the public raised the alarm. Police have refused to reveal details of exactly how much cash was stolen, but said the amount had been recovered.

The spokeswoman said: “At 4.46am this morning, Monday March 30, police were called to a robbery at the Iceland store on Cardiff Road, Caerphilly.

“Two males, aged 19 and 15 from Caerphilly, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and are currently in police custody.

“Two members of staff were at the premises at the time of the incident, but no one was harmed.

“A knife and an amount of cash were recovered at the scene.

“Police remain at the store undertaking enquiries. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 46 30/03/15.”
