Newbridge showjumper gets leg up from national project

Sport | | Published: 16:22, Thursday April 2nd, 2015.

A Pentwynmawr showjumper has become the first Welsh junior rider to be chosen for a national promotion project.

Alice Verrier, 13, was selected for the Leg Up for Talent social media project that gives sportspeople goals to reach for sponsorship.

Her first goal is to get as many ‘likes’ on her Facebook page Alice Verrier – Show Jumper.

Alice said: “Over the last 12 months I have improved from jumping 2ft3 classes to jumping BSJA Newcomers and my target is to jump BSJA Foxhunter by the end of the season.

“I have recently competed in dressage and cross-country and have had placings each time, so one day eventing could be my next challenge.

“My biggest achievement to date was winning a Puissance class (1.45m) last summer on a 17.1h horse after having only ridden him four times before.”
