Plans for a new school for Oakdale were presented to Caerphilly County Borough Council’s planning committee, outlining the finer details of the building.

The secondary school, which is set to replace Pontllanfraith and Oakdale comprehensive schools, will occupy an undeveloped piece of land, formerly Oakdale Colliery, which has been reclaimed by the council.

The three-storey building will be modern in design, resembling similar schools recently built in the borough, and will have solar panels along the south facing roof of the teaching block.

The build will stand in an area of 4.2 hectares with space for a 3G pitch, 200m athletics track and multi-use games area for netball and tennis. The site will also feature a garden, small amphitheatre, and a pond in the southwest corner of the site.

Contractors Willmott Dixon will begin work in August this year.

Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Cllr. Rhianon Passmore, said: “I am pleased with the plans and progress to date for this project.
“The school will be a state-of-the-art building offering a fantastic 21st Century teaching and learning environment for pupils to thrive.”
