Bargoed clawed back a 14 point half-time deficit to defeat Bridgend Athletic 31-22, making it 22 consecutive wins in the Swalec Championship on April 11.
The Blues are now just two points away from taking the Championship title, regardless of second placed Swansea’s results, with four games left to play.
The game started well for the home side with wing Lewis Protheroe squeezing in at the corner flag following some deft skills from hooker Lewis Lippiett in midfield.
Josh Prosser’s conversion drifted wide but Bargoed were 5-0 up with barely two minutes gone.
Bridgend Athletic closed the gap with a Rob Evans penalty before Prosser restored the advantage with a kick of his own to make it 8-3 after ten minutes.
Bargoed scrum-half James Pizey was sin-binned for a ruck infringement at the end of the first quarter and Athletic took full advantage.
Quick scrum ball saw centre Ryan Owen crash over under the posts and Evans converted to put the visitors 8-10 up.
The Bargoed crowd were silenced again just after the half-hour mark when a break from broken play saw Jake Williams go over for Athletic’s second, but Evans couldn’t convert.
Williams scored again before half-time, with Evans adding the extras to end the 8-22 up.
Bargoed exploded out of the blocks in the second-half and the forwards took complete control.
Protheroe found himself up against the touchline and slipped a pass inside to fellow wing Lee Pearson to make it 13-22.
Five minutes later, scrum-half James Pizey sniped around the blind side of his scrum to score an unconverted try to make it 18-22.
The Bargoed pack disrupted a Bridgend scrum and were then awarded the put in. They drove over for their fourth try to take the lead and gain the bonus point, with flanker Grant Rogers coming up with the ball. Prosser converted to make it 25-22 with 15 minutes left.
The Blues’ forwards continued to squeeze and the penalties duly came after 72 and 78 minutes, enabling Josh Prosser to make the game safe at 31-22.
