A Caerphilly-based start-up has signed a partnership deal with a major housing organisation.
Computer firm Happus, which supplies discounted equipment to charities and people claiming benefits, has partnered with the Northern Housing Consortium (NHC), a membership organisation supporting housing providers across the UK.
Through Happus, which is based at the Welsh Innovation Centre for Enterprise, social housing residents can have unlimited broadband and line rental starting from £10.85 per month with provider TalkTalk.
It is this package which will be promoted nationally through the NHC to around 1.5 million homes.
David Williams, Managing Director of Happus, said “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to let people know that there is a real, affordable and sustainable option for people to get and stay online.
“We work with a number of councils and housing associations across the UK to help the digitally excluded get access to computer equipment, and our recent deal with TalkTalk is probably the lowest price for broadband and line rental out there.
“The ethos here at Happus is that internet access is a right, not a privilege, and we strive to offer all our customers a package that suits them, whatever their circumstances.”
Would it not be cheaper to have estate wide wifi provided by the council everyone in the houses can connect to? Wifi hotspots are dirt to cheap to create and maintain.
In addition to this, if CCBC wants to improve Caerphilly town centre they should have free, unlimited wifi all over.
I am a bit of a technophobe and don’t really understand any of this. But could free wifi have potential to attract people and business to Caerphilly? Would it be a worthwhile investment?
I doubt it, and it’s important to note that this company does not give free wifi, all it does is find the best price wifi. It is essentially a wifi comparison website.
Free wifi is good for people working or on the go.
