Aber Valley Wolves beat Cardiff City B 18-76 on July 18 to ensure a home play-off semi-final in the Welsh Conference South.

The Wolves will take on Cardiff City A in the semi-final after a strong first half performance saw them home against the second side, who remained tenacious throughout.

Aber Valley opened the scoring early on through hooker Gareth Hutcherson and James Hallet added the conversion.

Cardiff had no answer to the fast running of the Wolves and it was no surprise when they increased their lead through Lloyd Williams, with Hallett again converting.

Ryan Williams was next to cross for the Wolves, followed in quick succession by Rhys Cleverly and Connor Wiegold. Hallett converted one for a 26-0 advantage mid-way through the half.

The tries kept on coming with Williams and Wiegold adding a second try each before Jonny Armitage, Brendan Reynolds and Darryl Skym all crossed.

Three more successful conversions by Hallet gave the Wolves a 52-0 half-time advantage.

Cardiff refused to lie down and were rewarded with the first try of the second half through Simon Grisman, with Kyle Rose adding the goal.

Aber Valley responded almost immediately with a Geoff Goodswen try and Ryan Williams successfully took over the goal kicking duties.

Armitage and Reynolds added a second, both goaled by Williams, but Cardiff continued to plug away and Colom John crossed for a try and improved on by Rose.

Wolves were not finished and Joshua Edge crossed for a try converted by Williams, but Cardiff had the last word with a try and conversion by Kyle Rose.

• Elsewhere Valley Cougars remain top of the Conference League South after they and Torfaen Tigers fought out a thrilling 38-38 draw in front of a packed house at Treharris RFC.

The home side secured the point at the death with the last kick of the game.

In Kingstone Press League 1, South Wales Scorpions went down 28-46 at home to Hemel Stags, leaving them still looking for that elusive home win.
