Bargoed pushed Bedwas all the way in a physical pre -season encounter at Bargoed Park, but the Championship side lost out 19-12 to their Premiership neighbours.
The home side had the better of the first half and took a deserved lead after 21 minutes, whenflanker Andrew Coupe scored and young outside half Niall Martin added the conversion and the Blues ended the half 7-0 up.
The second half was a scrappy affair disrupted with the inevitable changes as both coaching teams tried out new combinations.
Bedwas pulled a try back from scrum half Luke Crane which went unconverted before lock Geraint Edmunds, signed by Bedwas from Bargoed in the close season, scored two tries against his old club, one converted by Richard Powell to make the score 7-19 with nine minutes left.
Bargoed came back strongly and closed the gap with a try from Adam Coupe to make it 12-19 and despite throwing everything into the dying minutes couldn’t find the killer punch to pull level.
