Toy firm to expand with new distribution centre in Caerphilly

Business, News | | Published: 17:00, Thursday September 3rd, 2015.

Toy manufacturer Kids@Play, based in Chepstow, is to expand with a new distribution centre in Caerphilly.

The move is being funded by a £425,000 finance deal from bank Santander.

The company, which has a range of toy licences from children’s television shows, is also set to invest in a new manufacturing base in China to help it grow and satisfy demand in countries such as Australia.

Established ten years ago, Kids@Play was set up by entrepreneur Malcolm Evans following a 37-year career in the toy industry, and specialises in manufacturing outdoor products and battery powered vehicles for children.

In 2011 the firm was named as the Fastest Growing Business in Manufacturing and Engineering by the University of Wales global academy, as well as being placed in the Wales Fast Growth 50 list.

The company was recently awarded a licence from ITV for a new series of Thunderbirds toys based on the revamped hit show.

The business has also made an exclusive range of Shaun the Sheep-themed promotional items for the upcoming Rugby World Cup.

David Walters, international director of Santander Corporate and Commercial, said: “Kids@Play is a great local success story with strong ambitions and we’re delighted to support Malcolm and his team.

“He has developed a remarkable business and the expansion into the new premises is tangible proof of the firm’s success in the UK and internationally.”
