Bedwas High School and rugby club link up with new appointment

Youth rugby at Bedwas will be given a huge boost after a specialist schools rugby development officer was appointed.

Jonathan Hughes will work with Bedwas High School and Bedwas RFC as part of a local partnership with the WRU.

Hughes was educated at Bedwas High School is the head coach for Bedwas RFC Youth, as well as Director of Rugby for Rhymney Valley Schools Under 15s and Backs Coach with the Dragons Under 16s Academy.

He will promote and teach boys and girls rugby at Bedwas High School, local primary schools and the wider community. in a bid to bridge the gap between the school and club game.

Mark Lewis, Bedwas RFC Chairman, said: “Jon has already had a great impact and will give a great boost to junior and youth rugby at Bedwas.

“This will further strengthen the pathway of skills and personal development we offer at Bedwas RFC.

“We would be delighted to hear from anyone wishing to know more about this exciting new venture or to join our rugby teams, now playing at levels right the way from our under-7s up to the premiership league.”
