Falklands War veteran Simon Weston, of the Welsh Guards, visited Bedwas High School recently to deliver a motivational workshop for the pupils.

Nelson-born Mr Weston, who is well known for overcoming the injuries he sustained on board the Sir Galahad ship, told his story to 25 pupils.

Throughout the workshop Simon discussed his journey from teen trouble-maker to Welsh Guardsman to being honoured with an OBE for his charity work.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “It is marvellous that these pupils have had the chance to meet such an inspirational person.”

Fair go to Simon he’s got more go than most. He’s dedicated the second half of his life to things that are bigger than any one man.
