A 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal crash in Tir-y-Berth has been released on police bail.
Conor Tiley, 18, and 17-year-old Connor Williams, both from Aberbargoed, were travelling with friend Cameron Nicholas, 18, when their car was involved in a crash on New Road, Tir-y-Berth, on January 3.
Mr Nicholas suffered serious injuries and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where he is said to be in a critical condition.
Gwent Police said the Ford Fiesta they were travelling in was in a collision with a silver Vauxhall Astra at around 7.25pm. The female driver of the Astra was taken to Prince Charles Hospital, in Merthyr Tydfil, and has since been released.
Officers are looking into the role a third car may have played in the crash moments before.
A 17-year-old boy from Pengam was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and has been released on police bail until March pending further inquiries.
Online fundraising for the families of Mr Tiley, Mr Williams and Mr Nicholas has now reached More than £5,285.
The fund was started by friend Daniel Pendry who wrote: “We’d just like to help all families involved financially at this awful time to help with time off work, funeral fees and just to support them.
“The money won’t bring Conor and Connor back but we’re hoping that it will at least help the families a tiny bit and allow them to grieve without any added worries.
“We know these boys are lovely boys, they grew up together and were the best of friends. There’s not a bad word to say about any one of them and all of Aberbargoed and the surrounding areas are going to greatly feel the loss.”
