Wales and West Utilities has said it will look at ways to reduce traffic jams between Abertridwr and Penyrheol as it continues work to replace old gas pipes.
The £200,000 scheme to replace pipes along the B4263 restarted this week following a Christmas break and motorists have faced huge delays because in the area because of the roadworks.
Francis Kirk, Wales and West Utilities Programme Controller for the work, said: “We realise that our traffic management is causing traffic to back up along Station Terrace and further back from there, during peak periods and in particular the evening rush hour.
“We are not able to cover our excavations during peak periods to allow traffic to flow freely, but we will continue to manually operate our temporary traffic lights. We are also discussing the possibility of altering the phasing of the lights during the rush hours to help alleviate the traffic situation with the local highways authority.
“We would like to remind people that this is essential work that we must carry out so we can remain confident that we are able to continue supplying homes and businesses in the area with a safe and reliable gas supply.”
He added: “We are committed to working as quickly as possible to get this stretch of the gas pipe replacement programme completed as soon as we can, and move off Bowls Close.
“The section of work that we began on Monday is part of the last phase of work in this scheme and we are due to complete it within four weeks.”
