Flats in Rowan Place, Rhymney, to be demolished

News | | Published: 16:00, Monday January 25th, 2016.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet has approved plans for the demolition of a block of flats in Rowan Place in Rhymney to create a new community space.

As part of a £200 million project to upgrade its housing stock, the council discovered that one of the unoccupied blocks of two-bedroom flats on the estate was defective.

The block, along with some empty garages, will now be demolished to make way for a significant community space in the centre of the estate.

The next stage to progress the demolition work is to gain formal approval from Welsh Government.

Work is currently underway to refurbish and raise the standard of the remaining 72 council-owned properties in Rowan Place which will cost in the region of £4.2m and is expected to be completed in early 2017.

Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “These works will enhance the physical environment within Rowan Place and will greatly improve the appearance of the estate for local residents.”
