A Senghenydd woman will be running three half-marathons and one full marathon to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance.

Anita Harper, 45, is running the total distance of 65.5 miles over several weeks.

The mother-of-three, who works at Caerphilly’s St Martin’s School in behavioural support, will begin her challenge on March 6 with the Newport Half Marathon.

The Llanelli half takes place on March 13, the Cardiff Half Marathon then follows on March 26, with the Greater Manchester Marathon being held on April 10.

Anita began running while she underwent health tests last year.

She decided to raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance after the service, which relies on donations, came to the aid of her family and friends.

About two years ago, Anita’s twin sister, Alison Williams, was involved in a horse riding accident on a farm. The Wales Air Ambulance came to her aid as a road ambulance could not get to the scene.

This challenge is the second time Anita has ran in aid of the charity, previously taking part in the Severn Bridge Half Marathon.

Anita said: “I started raising money for charities in March 2015. I am going to try my best to raise as much as I can.”

By collecting sponsorship, Anita is helping to raise the £6 million needed every year to keep the Wales Air Ambulance running.

Mark Stevens, the charity’s Fundraising Manager, said: “It is amazing that Anita is taking on such a huge challenge in aid of us and is helping us to complete our lifesaving missions.

“As a charity we rely on donations to fund our services and fundraisers like Anita help us to keep our helicopters flying all over Wales.”
