A derelict hotel in Oakdale is set to become a flat complex after Caerphilly County Borough Council approved plans.
The planning committee passed the application of Mr S Poynter, of Hamilton Street, Cardiff on Wednesday February 10.
Formerly The Oakdale Hotel, the applicant will convert the building on Central Avenue into nine flats – four with single bedrooms and five two-bedroom flats. He will also add three three-storey homes to the site.
An outbuilding and flat-roofed extension will be demolished to make room for the three-bedroom homes, with a car park providing 12 spaces.
The grade II listed building will also see some of its original features remain. The ‘dumb waiters’ are to be restored, and external signage will be retained over its entrance.
The council’s conservation and design officer said the proposed development would bring the former public house “back into beneficial use that should secure the future of the listed building”.
In seeking approval, 26 neighbouring properties were consulted.
