A group of women have raised more than £1,000 during the last year through knitting and sewing a range of products, with proceeds donated to Cwmfelinfach Primary School.

The ‘Knitting Nannies’ originally began knitting items to sell at the school’s fete two years ago and have continued to raise funds on behalf of the school by selling their creations.

As a result, the school has bought two sewing machines, a portable sound system and badminton nets.

The group also volunteer their time during textile lessons, helping Key Stage 2 children to make blankets for the Dog’s Trust, a school banner, blankets for the Special Care Baby Unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital, PE kit bags and a wall hanging constructed from appliqued squares.

Dave Witchell, headteacher at Cwmfelinfach Primary School said: “Thank you to the ‘Knitting Nannies’ for their continued hard work and commitment to our school.

“Without them, the pupils of Cwmfelinfach Primary School would not have gained the skills so easily forgotten such as knitting, sewing, embroidery, crocheting and creating items using a sewing machine.”
