Pupils from 61 different schools across Caerphilly County Borough will attend a special safety event this month.

Caerphilly Crucial Crew will be delivered to approximately 2,000 Year 6 pupils by a group of organisations including Caerphilly Road Safety, Network Rail, Food Standards Agency Wales, and Western Power.

Crucial Crew is co-organised by the council’s road safety team and Resolve It, a company which provides training and runs workshops in how to stay safe.

The event, currently being held at the Abertridwr YMCA, delivers key safety messages in a “fun and engaging way” and this year features several workshops which could save lives in the future.

The session is designed to be relevant and engaging, and combines curriculum-linked advice with real life situations.

Also involved this year are the RNLI, The Samaritans, NSPCC and the Dogs Trust.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning said: “It is absolutely vital that we educate young residents all around the borough about real dangers and how to avoid them.

“Crucial Crew is a very effective way of doing this and it’s great to host it once again this year within Caerphilly.”

Resolve It has been running throughout Wales for nearly 20 years and delivers personal safety workshops in educational establishments, charities, businesses and not-for-profit organisations.
