Paralympic medal winning sprinter Ben Rushgrove paid a special visit to Pontllanfraith Primary School recently to put the children through their paces as part of a sponsored event.
Rushgrove, who won bronze in the T36 200 metres in London 2012, led pupils and staff in a fitness session, before talking to the children about his experiences.
The event was held to raise money for sports equipment for the school.
Headteacher Angela Taylor said: “We are undertaking quite an improvement journey and the school is going from strength to strength.
“Our dedicated staff, PTA members and pupils are working hard to transform the extensive grounds to match what has been achieved in the interior of the school’s historical building over recent years.”
The school’s newly formed PTA are also supporting the school in fundraising to purchase benches, bins, picnic tables and a trim trail for the children to play on in an effort to create an educational and fun outdoor space for the children.
The school’s Year 6 class are writing to local businesses, seeking donations and support.
