A Caerphilly-based software developer is hoping to find success with a new smartphone location app.

Sam East created Shake Locate after he tried to give his father directions to where he lived after moving home.

The app works by using GPS to find a user’s global position and then generates a shareable text message or internet link.

Mr East explained: “For those who aren’t familiar with their surroundings it can be difficult to describe how to get to them and the process to share a location can be a fairly long-winded one.

“I decided to simplify things by creating Shake Locate which works by using longitude and latitude to pinpoint your location.”

The app allows users to create lists of their favourite places to share and also lets them find out what’s nearby.

Mr East added: “I thought, finding and sharing your location should not have to entail opening several apps or windows before copying and pasting links in a new message or post that you would have to create separately.

“I wanted to deliver a better experience with Shake Locate and make it as accessible as possible.

“As such it is available to use globally and in nine different languages including German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Chinese.”

Shake Locate is a free app available in the Apple app store and Google Play store for users of Android phones.
